The Campaign for Positive Development
On January 22, 2000, several of our members performed
in a fun-loving, up-beat, empowering and comedic event called BRIGHT
VISIONS, created by David Giller, founder of The Campaign for Positive
Development, a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating positive
change in our communities.
WOVA member, Sonya Lugo, who refers to herself as "Midwife
of the Soul", is the founder of Inner Dimensional Pathways of Healing,
a center located in SE Florida through which Sonya brings forth education
and healing combining her Shamanic mastery with hypnotherapy. Sonya
led the audience in two meditations, one under The Think Positive segment
of the show called, "Imagine", in which a kinder, gentler and cooperative
new world was envisioned; and under the Peace of Mind...Don't Settle
for Less segment, she led the audience through suggestions that could
lead to Peace of Mind.
Cheyenne Chernov, a professional artist and facilitator
of women's spirituality and meditation groups, led the audience in a
relaxation meditation under the segment, RELAX. Silver Nightingale,
flautist, singer and composer who has performed with Judy Collins and
Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, accompanied both Sonya and Cheyenne.
Oonaja Malagon, a musician/songwriter who has appeared
at various festivals nationwide performed her original song, "For the
Children", which is dedicated to all those who strive and work for the
welfare of the planet. Raven Cohan, a well-known South Florida Tai Chi-Chi
Kung and meditation teacher, sang and danced to her own original songs,
"Junk Food Junkie" and "Tai Chi".
The evening was magical for all who performed and those
who had the pleasure of participating in the audience. The program had
eight positive messages for the 21st century:
- Look on the Bright Side
- RELAX
- Go for It
- Love is the Answer
- Think Positive
- Be Wise, Exercise
- I'm a Person...Handle with Care
- Promote Harmony
Twenty five talented and gifted children from North Andrews
Gardens also performed during the show. North Andrews is a magnet school
located in Fort Lauderdale which provides a Performing and Visual Arts
Program to elementary-aged, creative children. One of the highlights
of the show was when these children provided the "backdrop" for singer,
Karen Jones, as she sang "The Greatest Love of All".
This show proved to be a living example of networking
people and groups to provide a community forum for change and transformation.
Not only are the women mentioned participants in our Women of Vision
chapter, but also, through networking and being open to other opportunities
to lend their talents and spread the word for positive change, have
they found themselves collaborating on other projects such as Bright
Visions. And, by David Giller, having been invited as a guest speaker
at our September, 1999 Link-Up Day, he was able to invite these women
to participate in his Vision....so, as you can see, networking can lead
to collaborating and promoting each others' dreams.
And, this wasn't the first time Sonya Lugo and Karen Jones
found themselves performing on the same billing. At last year's WOVA
Conference, hosted by the SE Florida chapter, Sonya was the creator
of the opening ceremony for which she wrote a play, Atlantis Rising,
which she dedicated to Marianne Williamson, the Conference's special
guest speaker. Karen Jones composed and sang several songs for the play.
Another collaboration made in WOVA heaven.
The Campaign for Positive Development is dedicated to
helping children and people of all ages develop self-confidence, higher
self-esteem and greater well-being by providing the training and tools
needed to surround them with more positive reinforcements and guidance
for overcoming life's obstacles. CPD works with entire communities and
the media to create the necessary support systems for positive transformation.
It acts as a conduit for individuals, companies and organizations who
have positive contributions to offer the community.
